HeptonstallScotty

HEPTONSTALL, Scotty John
May 10, 1977 - July 28, 2015

No Beauty Shines Brighter
than that of a Good Heart

On July 28th 2015 Scotty Heptonstall traded in his tool belt for a beautiful set of wings. Scotty was the third of four children born to Elaine and Dale Heptonstall in Drumheller, Alberta. As a child Scotty loved climbing hills, riding his bike and playing at the creek with his siblings and their dogs Sheba and Jasper in tow. As he grew older he had a love for swimming, soccer, skate boarding and his big love which was snowboarding, which he later went on to teach. As an adult he found a great passion for reading, Scotty was very articulate and could read through a 3 inch novel in two days. He was also very creative and enjoyed carving soapstone, wax and wooden figurines and even learned to play the harmonica. In his early years in the working world Scotty worked as a seismic labourer for many years until he decided to change careers and went into roofing for 10 years, and then the last 3 years he went to work for Sunterra Farms doing maintenance as he was good at plumbing, electrical and other handyman duties.  Scotty was a free spirit and in the summer loved nothing more than to be at a park with flip flops and his back pack wandering around soaking up the sun, tubing down the river or fishing,  in the winter he traded it all in for a snowboard and back pack and after all of his daily activities his favourite thing in the world to wrap up the day (winter or summer) was a long hot bubble bath and a good book. His love for his family was the thing he prided himself most on. He was always front and center to help fix or move something or help out with some crazy projects that he had to help his mother and siblings fix up. Scotty always told his family he loved them and told them so and gave them a hug every time he went out the door. Scotty was once asked if he thought he’d ever move out of Drumheller and he quickly replied “no”, that he loved Drumheller and had no desire to living else where and that his family and everything he ever needed was right here. Material things were not overly important to Scotty, he enjoyed simple things in life. He will always be remembered for his big bright smile and big brown sparkly eyes, everyone who met him commented on his kindness and his smile, how he made people feel comfortable and welcome, he was a great listener and loved unconditionally. On more than one occasion Scotty was known to buy meals from McDonalds for random people, on one occasion it was a very cold winter day and a man didn’t have enough for a meal so he bought him a good meal and a coffee, and when the man was ready to leave Scotty got up and made sure he had another coffee so he had something to keep his hands around to keep warm when he went back out into the cold. Our Dear beloved Scotty leaves to mourn his passing his Mother Elaine Heptonstall, His Sister Carrie Dumont (Steve), Brothers Dale Heptonstall (Barb), Terry Heptonstall, His Nephew Azraie Dumont, Nieces Madison & Olivia Heptonstall, and Nephew Daenen Vockeroth (Heptonstall) , his Grandmother Isabel Grenier, and his many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends who loved him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 6th at 1:00 pm at the Drumheller Alliance Church, 670 7 Ave. East, Drumheller.

MORELLI, Rio Giacomo
August 23, 1934 - July 30, 2015

Rio Giacomo Morelli passed away suddenly but peacefully on July 30th, 2015. Rio was a Master Electrician, owning M&M Electric for 25 years until he passed it on to his son Shane.  This was the last of many jobs, including taxi driver, oilfield worker and a brief stint as a miner. He was very much a family man, being married to his darling sweetheart, Linda, for 45 years and always bragging about his two children, April and Shane.   Rio was a proud Grampa to Tyler, when he found out he was going to be a Grampa he was ecstatic and spread the news all over town.  He loved his visits from Tyler. Rio was always joking around with a great sense of sarcastic humour and loved talking to people, especially about his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  He took delight in a lot of things, for example, his appreciation for Italian bread – he was always on the ultimate quest to find the best loaf.  He could be found frequently at the local McDonalds, drinking his favorite coffee and hanging out with the coffee gang, including his good friends, Richard Wheeler and Walter Albrecht. Rio loved going to Phoenix in the Winter to spend time with his beloved brother Erc and Erc’s significant other Connie in the condo generously provided by Vince and Holly. Rio enjoyed his business partnership with longtime friend Lloyd Bodemer, owning a rental property and storage business with him which kept Rio hopping. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football which he excelled at during his youth – trying out for the Calgary Stampeders – and was proud of his nephew Tony for his football prowess. Rio is survived by his wife Linda, son Shane (Kim), daughter April, grandson Tyler, brother Erc (Connie) and sister Rita, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at the Drumheller Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (207-17th Street NW) on Sunday, August 9th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. and a meal after at the Badlands Community Facility. All are welcome to attend. His hope for the future can be found in the scriptures at Job 14:15 and Revelation 21:4. We look forward to seeing him again.

Gone Fishin’
(The Fishermens Prayer)
Delmar Pepper

I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me,
So put me on a boat headed out to sea.
Please send along my fishing pole
For I’ve been invited to the fishing hole.

Where every day is a day to fish,
To fill your heart with every wish.
Don’t worry, or feel sad for me,
I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea.

We will miss each other for awhile,
But you will come and bring your smile.
That won’t be long you will see,
Till we’re together, you and me.

To all of those that think of me,
Be happy as I go out to sea,
If others wonder why I’m missin’,
Just tell ‘em I’ve gone fishin’.

MUELLER, Lorna Anne (nee Hoover)

September 16, 1931 - August 16,2015

Lorna Anne Mueller (nee Hoover) passed away in her Drumheller home on Sunday, August 16 with her family present after living a full life of hard work and accomplishments.   She was born September 16, 1931 to Arthur and Alma Hoover of Delia/Drumheller, Alberta. She was one of seven children (Irene (Norman Nelson, Leigh Williams), Marion (Don McNeill), Howard (Helen Hoover), Cecil (Charlotte Hoover), Lorna, Verna (Neil McNeill).    As a young child her brother Francis Arthur passed away in early 1930’s. Mom started school at Majestic in the fall of 1937; Kelvindale in 1938 - 1943; Buffalo 1943 - 1944 (with sister Marion) followed by Ghost Pine and Farrell Lake (with sister Irene).  Mom finished public school at the Drumheller Dormitory for high school.  Following public school she was enrolled at Garbutts Business School and worked as a secretary with both MidWest paper, worked with Judge Manly Edwards for her room and board while attending the Institute of Technology and Art (now SAIT).  In 1952 she purchased the Morrin Corner Tip Top Service Station and ran this establishment for about one year, then worked as a teletype operator for the CPR until her marriage. She married Harold William Mueller on October 22, 1955 (passed March 20, 2008) in Delia and moved to the Mueller farm in the Orkney District where she and Dad farmed and raised their family.  Together they enjoyed dancing and attending functions with friends and family galore.  Many people heard Dad’s endearing salutation for Mom which was “Missus” followed by “where’s the coffee?” Coffee, had to have been the #1 most consumed beverage in Mom’s kitchen and the pounds and pounds of coffee served have been endless.  In 1959 a wonderful person joined the farm - Frank Laslo.  He was a cornerstone and integral part to the Mueller family from that time onwards until his passing in 2013, during which time his wife Blanche also became a treasured friend and confidant. Mom and Dad had five children (Elaine, Darcy, Maxine, Donald, Valerie), 16 grand children, and 7 great grand children. Elaine (husband Wayne; Brady Moses); son Darcy (wife Connie; Mitch (Chelsea), Kolton (Paige), Lincoln, Reagan); daughter Maxine (husband Dale; Darrel (Kristina), Jason, Britney Alford); son Donald (wife Sheri; Zach, Taylor/Wes Kashuba, Madison, Tatum); and youngest daughter Valerie (husband Dave Carnegie; children Justin, Jesse, Brandi (Jon), Trennon).  Great grand children Aohdyn, ,Khloe (Darrel/Kristina), Bo, Briley (Kolton/Paige); Alia, Jovyn (Mitchell/Chelsea) and Claudia (Brandi/Jon). Mom was also devoted to the Hoover clan and enjoyed getting us all together on holidays with the Nelson, Hoovers and McNeill’s to share in celebrations with lots of good food, pranks and stories. She was a genuine friend and a neighbour to many people in the Three Hills, Ghost Pine, Orkney, Morrin, Munson, Drumheller and Delia areas.  Many of Mom’s close neighbours and special friendships evolved during her time on their farm in Orkney.  All who knew her shared and enjoyed her kindness, talents and hospitality.  Together Mom and Dad participated in late night ski-doo parties followed by mid-night suppers.  She tried her hand at making sausage, butchering beef, wine making and never complained about adding additional place settings to include others for a meal.  She was virtually self taught and successful at everything she set out to do and was patient beyond belief. Mom had an amazing influence on all of her kids and took great pleasure in including ‘us kids’ in such activities as plans for building the new house on the farm in 1968-69.  She had an incredible way of encouraging her kids so that ‘you felt that you could accomplish anything in the world’.  She always made time to spend and nurture her grand children who kept her young at heart and she loved to hear of their activities.  They sought her out for wisdom, historical moments of the way things used to be and cherished her recipes.  She was infamous for her cinnamon buns and boiled raisin cookies which she shared and were enjoyed by many friends and family. As you can imagine, raising five children and being married on the farm was demanding at the best of times.  Unbeknownst to ‘us kids’, Brandi recently informed us that Gramma told her, ‘everyday before the kids came home from school she took a Tylenol’ so we could not have always been a delight for her. Aside from machinery, there were a number of interesting purchases for the farm and on one occasion Dad thought that a necessary item for Mom was a motor boat – she was not amused as she was afraid of water and you can imagine this did not go over well. Mom and Dad moved to Drumheller in 1992 when they built their retirement home and where they had many further happy times. They enjoyed city life including ‘mystery trips’ with friends, dressing up for Halloween, coffee parties as she continued to cook for many with seemingly little effort.  In their new home, Mom continued to evolve her talents in the gardens growing everything from tobacco to tomatoes and continued to be a fabulous homemaker.  A significant achievement for the family occurred in 2007 the family farm received an award for 100 years of successive farming since it was homesteaded by Robert William Mueller and Otto Mueller in 1907. One saying that became common in her vocabulary after Dad died was “It is, what it is” and her accepting and tenacious spirit enabled her to deal with all of life’s ups and downs.  One of her favourite household cleaners or polishers was WD40 which could be dangerous or funny depending upon how and where she used it. During her life, Mom created businesses from ceramics to B & B’s in her home and enjoyed the variety of volunteer organizations such as the Drumheller Agricultural Board and 4-H Sewing Club - Buttons and Bows.  Her interests were many and varied.  Throughout her life, Mom demonstrated that a beautiful life does not just happen.  It is built daily with humility, kindness, sacrifice, forgiveness and unconditional love. On behalf of Lorna’s family, we would like to especially acknowledge the timely, caring and thoughtful attention given to Mom during her many hospital visits/stays or time at home and gratefully thank and mention Dr. Olfert, the staff from Home Care / Drumheller Hospital and Community Services, and Ray Ainscough / staff of Riverside Value Drug Mart.  For approximately the past three years Mom has been able to remain in her own home with the assistance of caregivers including:  Brandi (grand daughter), Charlene, Betty and most recently Ula who has been Mom’s companion for the last year. We will remember and commemorate Mom’s life with family and friends at Knox United Church, Drumheller, on Friday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers we would ask that you choose to donate to Drumheller Hospital Foundation – Greatest Needs or Drumheller Home Care. Clarence passed away peacefully with his family by his side August 23, 2015 in Red Deer General Hospital.  Clarence was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, and we are lucky to have so many fond memories, and comforted to know that he will be remembered by so many.  Clarence was born in Drumheller, AB to August and Phyllis, being the youngest of four kids.  He was predeceased by Mini and Jim, and will be missed by Sister Phyllis Kulyk of Calgary.  Clarence married Eileen (Nelson) in 1961, celebrating 54 wonderful years together, Eileen jokes that at the age of 12 she knew that Clarence was her guy.  They had three children, Derek (Debbie) of Camrose, Bradley (Deborah) of Drumheller and Dana Tattrie of Leduc.  Clarence was a wonderful grandfather to Sara, Brittney, John, Jessica, Cody, Rachel and Brady.  He was also fortunate to become a great grandfather to baby Charlotte.  Clarence lived an interesting life which took him on adventures around the world working on off shore drilling rigs and later on running heavy equipment in construction.  In his golden years, Clarence enjoyed the love of his family and making his daily rounds for morning coffee with many of his friends talking about the business of the day and world events.  Clarence loved his coffee, and would faithfully be the first one at the Pioneer Center to make sure that the coffee was on.  It was Clarence’s wish to not have a service.  In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or “Pay It Forward”, buy a coffee someday for a friend or stranger and make their day!
